Device and Product Development
If you want to develop a device or product, we can define how it should work together and begin its design. We can also improve the mechanical structure of an existing product or prepare a prototype for manufacturing.
At Quick Design Makina, we assess the intended use, required features and operating conditions. We provide mechanical design, manufacturing files and prototyping; manufacturing and assembly can also be included according to your requirements.
Development can combine mechanical design with electronics, control systems and software integration to deliver a turnkey device. Depending on the requirements, touchscreen interfaces, mobile applications, data logging and remote monitoring can be included, with support extending to connected smart-device functionality.
What requirements can we help with?
- Developing new devices and mechanical products
- Improving an existing product's mechanism, housing or part structure
- Building prototypes to test an operating principle
- Turning a prototype into a design suitable for repeatable production
- Developing laboratory equipment, test assemblies and motion mechanisms
- Designing mechanical systems that integrate with electronics and automation components
Device development for different sectors
We define the development scope around the application. Examples of devices and systems we can work on include:
- Laboratory and research: Orbital shakers, sample preparation and mixing assemblies, and mechanical systems for analytical instruments.
- Analysis, testing and quality control: Product test devices, measurement fixtures and repeated-test mechanisms.
- Food and beverages: Preparation, mixing, dosing and filling devices; food and beverage vending machines.
- Industrial applications: Dosing systems, portable devices, custom motion assemblies and production-support equipment.
- Mechanical and electromechanical products: Devices integrating motors, sensors, electronic boards or control systems.
These examples illustrate application areas. Technical requirements and development scope are defined separately for each device.
Our development stages
1. Defining product features and conditions of use
We define the need the product will address, who will use it and where. We evaluate dimensions, operation, accuracy, frequency of use, durability and cleaning requirements. Target production quantity and available manufacturing capabilities are considered from the outset.
2. Comparable-product research and concept development
Where relevant, we review similar products and existing solutions to identify features for comparison. Using the information gathered and agreed requirements, we develop options for the operating principle, overall arrangement and mechanisms.
Component selection, materials, manufacturing methods, assembly and maintenance requirements are considered from this stage.
3. Detailed mechanical design and manufacturing files
As the concept develops, we prepare 3D part and assembly designs. Moving parts, connections and interfaces with other components are evaluated together.
- 3D part and assembly models
- Technical drawings and process-specific production files
- Purchasing list and bill of materials (BOM)
- Assembly drawings and necessary assembly instructions
4. Prototyping and trials
We define which features the first prototype needs to verify. Depending on the requirements, we prototype the entire product or its critical mechanism. Trial results inform design revisions and updates to manufacturing files.
5. Preparing for production
Using findings from the prototype, we reassess the part structure, manufacturing methods and assembly stages. Procurement, small-batch manufacturing and assembly can be coordinated within the project scope.
The scope of electronics, software and control-system work, and each party's responsibilities, are defined at the proposal stage.
Smart-device development: from touchscreen to mobile application
We plan the mechanical structure together with the user interface and control system. Depending on the requirements, development can include:
- Touchscreen operation, settings and recipe management
- Sensor-data display and operating-data logging
- Monitoring, settings or control through a mobile application
- Communication infrastructure and remote monitoring
- Integration of electronics, controls and software with the mechanical design
Features and connectivity requirements are agreed at the proposal stage. Electronics and software work can be coordinated with the relevant specialists as part of turnkey device development.
Volume-production preparation and manufacturing transfer
When requested, we can develop manufacturing and assembly arrangements for series production. We assess part structure, manufacturing methods, sourcing options and assembly organisation against the target production quantity. Dedicated fixtures, assembly aids and inspection setups can also be included where needed.
We also support the transfer of manufacturing knowledge to your company. Design files, technical drawings, purchasing lists, BOMs, assembly diagrams, production stages and inspection information are prepared within the agreed scope. Pilot production, assembly guidance and production support can continue until your team is able to manufacture the product in-house.
Information and documents to be transferred, necessary training, pilot builds and the support period are agreed at the outset.
Design for Manufacturing and Assembly — DFM / DFA
DFM — Design for Manufacturing: We evaluate materials, part geometry and tolerances for the production method. A suitable prototyping method may differ from the method used for volume production, so target production quantity is also considered.
DFA — Design for Assembly: We consider part counts, standard components, connection types and assembly sequence together. Tool access for assembly and adjustment, and parts that need removal during maintenance, are assessed during design.
How far can we develop your project together?
| Stage | Development / deliverables | What it provides |
|---|---|---|
| Concept and design | Requirements, comparable-product research, mechanisms and 3D design | Product structure and operating principle |
| Smart-device integration | Touchscreen, electronics, controls and mobile application | A device providing the agreed functions |
| Prototyping and trials | Prototype manufacturing, assembly, testing and revisions | Evaluation of product functions |
| Production preparation | Manufacturing methods, fixtures, assembly and sourcing arrangements | Preparation for repeatable production |
| Manufacturing transfer | Manufacturing files, BOM, assembly diagrams and production support | Support for manufacturing the product in-house |
The scope can cover one stage or extend to turnkey development and manufacturing transfer.

Frequently asked questions
Can we start without technical drawings?
Yes. Describing what you want the product to do is enough to start. Sketches, photographs, comparable products or an existing prototype can help us define the requirements together.
Can we commission design or prototyping only?
Yes. The scope can cover a specific stage such as concept development, mechanical design, manufacturing files or prototyping.
Does a working prototype mean the product is ready for sale?
Not on its own. Functional prototyping, repeatable manufacturing and testing required for the intended use are separate stages. Their scope and responsibilities are defined at the outset.
Can design usage rights, patents and design registration be included in the agreement?
Yes. Please state requirements concerning usage rights, file sharing, transfer of rights, or work related to patents and design registration at the proposal stage. These matters can be included in the agreement, with scope and responsibilities clarified before the project begins.
What information is needed for a quotation?
Share the intended use, required features, approximate dimensions, target production quantity and any existing work. A firm quotation is prepared once the technical scope is defined.
Can you transfer the manufacturing knowledge so we can produce the product in-house?
Yes. State this requirement at the proposal stage so we can agree on manufacturing files, assembly diagrams, production stages, pilot builds and team support. The support is planned to help your company become able to manufacture the product.
