Prototyping and Manufacturing
If you need to manufacture a designed part, device or machine, test a new mechanism, or arrange small-batch production, we can work with you.
Quick Design Makina assesses design and manufacturing requirements and coordinates manufacturing-method selection, part production, sourcing of standard components and assembly within the project scope. Delivery can cover an individual part, a functional prototype or an assembled system.
Discuss your manufacturing requirements
What can we help with?
- Prototype manufacturing for new parts and mechanisms
- Device and machine prototype builds and assembly
- Machined mechanical parts
- Laser-cut and bent sheet-metal parts
- Welded frames, housings and supporting structures
- Fixtures, assembly aids and test setups
- Small-batch production of parts, products and equipment
- Assembly of manufactured parts with standard components
Prototype or small-batch production?
Prototype: A build for evaluating specific features of a new design. We define the mechanism, dimensions or operating features to be tested at the outset. Findings may require design changes.
Small-batch production: Manufacturing an agreed quantity of parts or products with defined designs and production requirements. Repeatable manufacturing, assembly and inspection conditions are agreed before production starts.
Our manufacturing and assembly stages
1. Review the design and manufacturing information
We review 3D models, technical drawings, materials, quantities and critical dimensions. Intended use and each part's function within the assembly are considered. Missing information and design features affecting manufacturing are clarified before production.
2. Select manufacturing methods
We assess suitable methods against geometry, material, accuracy and quantity. Cutting, machining, bending, welding and any required surface treatments are planned in sequence. Different methods may suit a prototype and repeat production.
3. Coordinate manufacturing and procurement
Part production is coordinated with suitable manufacturers and specialist partners. We track standard-component specifications and procurement, delivery dates and necessary technical clarifications.
4. Assemble and conduct functional trials
Manufactured parts and purchased components are brought together according to the agreed assembly arrangement. We conduct defined prototype or system trials and assess necessary adjustments and design changes.
5. Inspect and deliver
Parts or systems are delivered after agreed dimensional, assembly and functional checks. Packaging, transport, installation and file deliverables are defined at the proposal stage.
Delivery scope for your requirements
| Requirement | Work scope | Delivery |
|---|---|---|
| Individual part | Define materials, method and dimensional requirements | Manufactured part |
| Mechanism prototype | Produce and assemble critical parts | Assembly suitable for trials |
| Device or machine prototype | Part production, sourcing, assembly and defined tests | Prototype with agreed functions |
| Small-batch production | Production to agreed quantity and inspection requirements | Agreed quantity of parts or products |
Design support during manufacturing
If an issue arises during part production or assembly, we can review the relevant design feature. Changes to materials, tolerances, connections, manufacturing methods or assembly access can be assessed, with agreed revisions applied to models and manufacturing files.
DFM — Design for Manufacturing and DFA — Design for Assembly are considered alongside production and assembly requirements. Findings from prototype trials also inform design development.
What information helps us get started?
- 3D models, technical drawings or existing design information
- Production quantity and target delivery date
- Materials and any required surface treatments
- Critical dimensions, tolerances and intended use
- Assembly and functional-test requirements
- Delivery location and any installation needs
If design files are unavailable, the scope can include design work and preparation before manufacturing.
Frequently asked questions
Can we commission a single part or prototype?
Yes. A scope for one part or prototype can be defined after assessing the technical requirements, manufacturing method and supplier capabilities.
Can you manufacture from our own design?
Yes. We review models, drawings and manufacturing requirements to define production and delivery scope, and share any points needing clarification before manufacturing.
How do you organise manufacturing?
We manage engineering, manufacturing and assembly within the project scope. Suitable manufacturers and specialist partners handle part production and specialist operations, while we coordinate technical information, procurement and delivery.
Can production continue after the prototype?
Yes. Prototype findings and necessary design changes can inform a new scope for small-batch production or volume-production preparation.
Are assembly and testing included in the price?
Part manufacturing, standard components, assembly, testing, transport and installation can be separate scope items. The proposal specifies which items are included.
How is design-file confidentiality handled?
Confidentiality, file sharing and usage conditions can be agreed at the proposal stage. Information to be shared for manufacturing and related responsibilities are defined before work begins.
Share the part or system you want to manufacture
Send your existing design, required quantity and delivery expectations. Together, we can define a suitable scope for a prototype, manufactured parts or an assembled system.
