Developing an application-specific actuator

Use these notes to define the application before choosing the final equipment configuration.

Working principle

A custom actuator combines the required motion with a suitable drive, transmission, bearings and mechanical interfaces. QDM develops the assembly around the intended load and installation space. The transmission architecture is selected for the application rather than offered as one fixed reducer product.

Configuration decisions

An actuator brief should define output motion, torque, speed, external loads and duty cycle together. Motor and output interfaces, bearing support, housing geometry, lubrication and assembly access affect the complete mechanism. Position feedback and controls integration are included only where agreed in the project scope.

Planning the first build

QDM actuator development has reached working-prototype stage. A new project can cover concept design, detailed engineering, procurement, coordinated manufacture and prototype assembly. The verification plan should define the agreed load, motion and measurement conditions. Working prototypes do not establish universal torque, backlash, accuracy, lifetime or production-release ratings.
