Develop the interfaces that control the function

Define locating surfaces, movement ranges, component connections and the intended assembly relationship. Use confirmed supplier information for purchased components. Separate important functional dimensions from dimensions that only describe the exterior, and review how those requirements will be inspected after manufacture.

Connect parts to their production route

Choose material grades, stock forms and manufacturing operations together. Consider cutting, forming, machining, joining and finish rather than assuming that a completed CAD model is automatically manufacturable. Review access for tools, assembly and replacement, particularly at interfaces that become difficult to reach once the equipment is closed.

Coordinate mechanical and specialist inputs

Agree mounting, connectors, sensors and available space with the controls or electronics team. Identify who selects process components and who confirms environmental requirements. QDM can lead the mechanical work and integrate reviewed partner or customer inputs; an unconfirmed specialist assumption should stay visible in the design review.

Release a controlled package

Record the agreed revision, unresolved points and the next approval or review. Drawings, parts lists and assembly information are supplied according to the contract, with manufacturing rights and permitted use defined separately where required. Before manufacture, confirm which interfaces and acceptance criteria belong to the released package.

These notes support an initial engineering discussion. Material grades, manufacturing routes, dimensions and acceptance criteria are selected for the actual application and confirmed in the project specification.
