How the process fits the part

For suitable steels, hardening and tempering can establish a required balance of hardness and toughness. Other alloys and functions need other routes. The heat-treatment specialist should confirm the selected material and process. A hardness target alone does not define the whole component’s strength, dimensional state or service suitability.

Design decisions before manufacture

Plan the sequence of rough machining, treatment and finishing. Shape changes can occur during processing, so critical interfaces may require a reviewed allowance and a later finishing operation. Discuss local features, sections and treatment access with the specialist before freezing the geometry or committing to a particular starting stock.

Inspect the finished result

Specify the agreed checks and where measurements are taken. Review hardness, relevant dimensions and required records after the appropriate operation. If grinding follows treatment, inspect the component in its final finished condition. Record the grade and treatment route so a replacement part can be assessed against the same requirement.

What to send for a quotation

Send the material designation, starting condition, geometry, quantity and the reason for treatment. Include target condition, critical interfaces and any documentation needs. QDM can coordinate the design and manufacturing sequence through project partners. Treatment parameters and any specialist material qualification remain part of the agreed supplier scope.
