Initial assessment
| Option / topic | Requirement | Points to assess together |
|---|---|---|
| Standard machine | An available machine suits the task | Operating suitability and included equipment |
| Custom machine | A specific manufacturing operation | Design, manufacturing and trial scope |
| Standard machine + development | An extra operation or mechanism | Additions, modifications and machine interfaces |
Standard machine or custom design?
A standard machine can be considered when it performs the required operation and meets the production target. Custom design becomes relevant when the material, part dimensions, manufacturing operation, factory layout or controls cannot be accommodated by available machines. Adding custom feeding, fixtures, transfer mechanisms or an extra operation to a standard machine is another option. The decision is based on the actual task and current production conditions.
What information should you share for the first assessment?
Explain the manufacturing operation, the sequence of steps and the result expected from the machine. A short video, photographs of the current work, operation stages and information about the material or parts help the initial assessment. Include the production target, operating speed, required precision, available floor space, electricity and compressed air. Existing drawings and dimensions can also be shared. Use the same requirements brief when requesting quotations from several suppliers.
Compare quotations with the same scope
One quotation may include a conveyor, fixtures and guides suited to the part or container, and installation, while another covers only the main machine. Review the machine, additional equipment, trials, transport, commissioning and training as separate items. Ask about warranty coverage, the contact for faults and spare parts support. The lowest initial price may not represent the lowest total cost for an equivalent delivery scope.
What should you verify before placing an order?
Plan trials using materials, parts or representative operating conditions appropriate to the task. Agree which operations will be performed, with which settings, for how long, and how the result will be checked. Review production speed, operation quality, changes between different sizes and operator requirements together. Define pre-delivery trials separately from commissioning checks at your facility.
At which stages can QDM help?
QDM can research standard machinery in Turkey and handle supplier and manufacturer discussions, quotation assessment, purchasing and delivery follow-up, providing intermediary support throughout these activities in Turkey. Purchasing, development, installation and support scope are agreed at quotation stage.
Frequently asked questions
What should I share for the first discussion?
Describe the manufacturing operation, its stages and your target. Videos or photographs of the current work, material or part information and capacity expectations are useful starting points. Drawings can be included when available; further information needed for detailed assessment will be requested separately.
What most affects the price?
Automation level, operations, material or part characteristics, capacity target, custom mechanisms, controls and delivery scope affect the price.
Can installation and training be included?
They can be included in the quotation. Site conditions, duration, travel and preparation at the customer facility are agreed in advance.
