How the process fits the part

The route can cut a range of materials, but each combination of material, thickness and geometry needs supplier confirmation. Cutting speed and edge expectations influence the result. Waterjet avoids the same thermal cutting mechanism as laser or plasma, yet it does not eliminate every edge, moisture or inspection consideration.

Design decisions before manufacture

Identify critical contours, small features and surfaces that later locate a component. Consider whether the part needs a machining allowance. Brittle, laminated or moisture-sensitive materials require a specific review with the cutting partner. The design should also provide a practical way to support the workpiece as the contour is separated.

Inspect the finished result

Check the agreed contour, edge condition and taper where these affect assembly. Define whether the blank is an intermediate part or a finished component. A bearing seat or sealing face may still need machining, even if the overall outline is acceptable. Include cleaning and deburring in the scope where needed.

What to send for a quotation

Send the material designation, thickness, quantity and functional features. Explain why waterjet is being considered, such as a restriction on thermal processing or a particular stock material. QDM can compare it with alternative blank-making routes and coordinate the agreed machining and assembly operations that follow.
