How the process fits the part

The process can make geometry that is awkward for conventional cutting and can help test an early arrangement without dedicated tooling. Choose the technology around the prototype’s purpose. A printed visual model, a load-bearing trial and a finished production component require different material and process decisions.

Design decisions before manufacture

Review build orientation, supports, wall geometry and access for cleaning or post-processing. Layer direction and the selected material can influence the useful result. A printed version of a future moulded or machined part should make those differences visible so that a successful trial is not treated as proof of the final manufacturing route.

Inspect the finished result

Define what the part must demonstrate and how it will be measured. Separate fit, appearance and function checks. If post-processing changes the material or dimensions, inspect the final state. Record the print technology and material so later trials can be compared meaningfully rather than treating all printed prototypes as equivalent.

What to send for a quotation

Send the model or available concept, purpose, material exposure, quantity and important interfaces. Identify whether the next decision concerns layout, handling or a mechanical function. QDM can develop the prototype design and coordinate printing and subsequent assembly, with any final production route reviewed as a separate stage.
