Where to consider this material
Review strength, toughness, wear and mass together with the actual component function. PA grades and modifications are not interchangeable. Cast and extruded stock may serve different manufacturing arrangements. Select the material using supplier data and the required interface rather than assuming one nylon grade is suitable for every guide, wheel or support.
Connect the grade with manufacturing
Plan the manufacturing and measurement state, especially where a fit is restrictive. Nylon can absorb moisture and change dimensions and mechanical properties. An inspection performed in one condition may not fully represent the installed part. Discuss conditioning, stock preparation and the assembly environment with the material and manufacturing partner.
Check the operating environment
Include humidity, water contact, temperature, process fluid and cleaning conditions. A dimensionally important sliding part needs its clearance reviewed for that environment. Reinforcement or other modifications can change behaviour and the interaction with a mating component. Where uncertainty remains, use a representative trial before confirming the design.
Specify the actual material
Specify the PA grade, form, modification and relevant conditioning requirements. Identify key dimensions and the agreed inspection condition.
