Where to consider this material

Begin by separating electrical or thermal conductivity needs from machining and mechanical needs. Brass includes multiple copper-zinc alloys, and material condition influences the practical result. A readily machinable alloy should not automatically replace a grade selected for contact compatibility, joining or a particular conductive function.

Connect the grade with manufacturing

Review machining, forming and joining with the actual grade. Thin features and mating threads need practical access and dimensional checks. Coordinate electrical-contact faces with the electronics team where relevant. If a finish is added, define which surfaces remain functional and how the completed interface is measured or reviewed.

Check the operating environment

Assess the fluid or atmosphere in contact with the part and any cleaning exposure. Product-contact or regulated applications require the appropriate material evidence for the exact alloy and use. Record composition-related restrictions specified by the customer rather than assuming that all brass or copper stock meets the same requirement.

Specify the actual material

Specify the alloy designation, condition, stock form and the reason for selection. Include joining, finish and required records. QDM can develop the mechanical geometry and coordinate the agreed component manufacturing scope. Any specialist electrical, process or contact-material assessment is identified with the responsible customer or partner team.
