QDM / SELECTION GUIDE

Pan-Tilt Selection Guide

Start with payload mass; make the decision together with centre of gravity, motion and platform conditions.

Define the requirement in four parts.

Selection needs more than kilograms.

Two payloads of the same mass can have different centres of gravity and inertia. The distance from the axis changes the moment and structural assessment. An equipment drawing or dimensioned photograph supports the initial review.

Define travel and cable clearance together.

Even with a −40° / +40° tilt target, the equipment envelope and cable bends can constrain usable travel. Limited pan motion and continuous rotation should be distinguished at the start.

A moving platform is a separate operating scenario.

Positioning on a fixed base and maintaining a line of sight on a moving platform have different scopes. Base motion, vibration, sensing needs and control objectives must be defined; stabilisation requires separate validation when requested.

Agree acceptance criteria before quotation.

Speed, positioning, communications, protection and temperature requirements follow the operating scenario. Agree which tests will be performed with which payload and environment; targets should not be presented as test results.

QDM / FAQ

Before selection.

How do I choose PT15, PT30 or PT100?

Payload mass is the first input. Centre of gravity, distance from the axis, dimensions, acceleration and operating environment are reviewed together. A model number alone does not confirm suitability.

What is the tilt travel?

The tilt travel target for this family is −40° / +40°. The final usable range is checked against the installed equipment, cable routing and mechanical clearances.

Can you develop for fixed and moving platforms?

Both can be considered. Moving-base conditions, shock/vibration and stabilisation requirements are defined separately. Stabilisation is assessed and validated for the application.

Can continuous pan rotation be considered?

If required, it is engineered together with power and data transfer, rotary interfaces and cable management. Pan travel and any continuous rotation feature are defined for the application.

Is PT100 an off-the-shelf product?

PT100 is presented as a solution engineered to order for a 100 kg payload design target. Manufacturing scope, validation and delivery terms follow technical review.

Let’s define the payload and operating scenario.
