Pump selection · Piston arrangement
A piston stroke can transfer a defined volume. Review consistency, valve passages, particles, seal compatibility and cleaning access. The available range depends on the piston and valve arrangement.
Pump selection · Gear and lobe pumps
These pumps may transfer liquid through the product path to the filling outlet. Consistency, pressure, supply conditions, particles and sensitivity to mechanical action affect selection. The transfer mechanism does not require the same method to measure the dose.
Pump selection · Peristaltic pump
Inside the pump head, the fluid contacts the tube bore. Tube material, size, wear and backpressure are assessed. Quantity control may use operating time or another measurement method, verified with the product.
Quantity control · Weighing
Container tare can be subtracted to monitor net mass. Review measurement resolution, vibration, residual flow and the operating cycle together. A volume target also requires consideration of product density.
Quantity control · Flowmeter
A suitable sensor monitors the quantity passing through the product path. Product compatibility, measurement range, air bubbles and operating conditions are assessed. Their effects depend on the sensor type.
Quantity control · Volume, time or level
Piston stroke, calibrated pump cycles or time may be used for quantity control. Visible fill level is a different target: the same level may not represent the same volume in every container. Define the target and acceptance method at the start.
